Last week, on Earth Day, I was 10 stories tall!
Let me explain. I was invited to attend the closing bell ceremony at NASDAQ in New York City on April 22. A small group of us attended educational sessions then we proceeded to view the bell ringing at market close. When organizers told us to line up for pictures, I had no idea why, but did as instructed. The Nasdaq MarketSite is in a building on Times Square, as opposed to the New York Stock Exchange, which is on Wall Street. To my surprise, once outside, I saw a giant me on the billboard (thank goodness I washed my hair!).
As you might imagine, much of the discussion was around investing in uncertain times. We discussed how markets are constantly recalibrating with new information, and I was reminded that US markets are functioning. Given the unexpected nature of the tariff announcement and ensuing escalations, there is much that markets still need to parse. With the initial shock behind us, investors continue sorting through long-term effects on growth, inflation, and valuations. At SilverPeak Wealth, we expect continued uncertainty and market volatility, but it gives me hope that markets are doing what they were designed to do, we are long-term investors, and this, too, shall pass.
I think it was purely a coincidence that this also happened to be Earth Day. However, with blossoming cherry trees and tulips throughout the city, a high of 75 degrees, and people filling the parks to welcome the sun, springtime in NYC was unmistakable! This season of renewal, again, brings me to hope.
Human nature tends to find fresh cause for optimism. I hope the same for you this spring.
